Scabies do not lead to serious consequences for health. The itching is nonetheless very unpleasant.

If symptoms show up, they are as follows:

  • intense itching, especially at night;
  • red grooves and lumps on the folds of the fingers, the wrists, the elbows, the heels, the waist, the breasts, the crotch and the genital organs.

A diagnosis can only be made when lesions are visible.

Treatment

  • To get rid of scabies, you have to apply a cream to your whole body.
  • You then have to wash all bedding, towels and clothes in hot water or dry clean them to avoid being re-infested or infesting others.

Protection

  • There is no method that ensures protection against scabies because it is transmitted just by contact with an infected person or a contaminated object.
  • If you have scabies, it is important to notify the people living with you and your sexual partners over the past month so that they can be treated.

In terms of figures :

70 % of sexually active persons will be infected by HPV at one time in their life
